Next is climate change – hardly a novel phenomenon but an accelerating one with an increasingly discernible impact on conflict. Nor are the U.S., Europe, or other donors likely to devote the requisite amount of high-level, continuous attention or resources on regional conflicts far away as they confront economic, social, and political havoc at home. The lines separating economic dissatisfaction from social unrest, and social unrest from outbreaks of violence, are thin. In Sudan, Lebanon, and Venezuela, to mention but a few examples, one can expect the number of unemployed to grow, real incomes to collapse, governments to face mounting difficulties paying security forces, and the general population to increasingly rely on state support at a time when states are least equipped to provide it. Although income levels do not directly correlate with conflict, violence is more likely during periods of economic volatility. The pandemic has precipitated a global economic crisis without precedent since World War II, with an additional 150 million people being driven below the extreme poverty line. Longer-term ramifications are a different matter. Although several low-income countries were hit badly, many were not diplomatic activity, international mediation, peacekeeping missions, and financial support to vulnerable populations suffered, but it’s questionable whether COVID-19 dramatically affected the trajectory of major wars, be they in Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Yemen, or elsewhere. When the pandemic first broke out, many – myself included – feared that it would have immediate, potentially devastating consequences in developing countries, especially those facing deadly conflict. In 2021, the world will be dealing with the aftermath and sifting through the debris. If there were a contest for the 2020 event with the most far-reaching implications for global peace and security, the field would be crowded.įrom the coronavirus pandemic to climate change’s growing impact, the Trump administration’s scorched-earth policies after Joe Biden’s election, the Azerbaijani-Armenian war over Nagorno-Karabakh, and a deadly conflict in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, it has been an eventful year. Soft dates: If you don’t have pitted soft dates, you can use regular pitted ones and soak them in hot water for 15 minutes.Rolled oats: these flat and flakey oats are also called old-fashioned oats. You can use other nuts or even seeds like cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, pepitas, etc. Almonds: give the crust a nutty flavor and crunchy texture. It looks eye-catching and elegant enough to rival any that you can buy from cake shops – perfect for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s day, and baby showers! Ingredients Needed For the Almond Crust I topped it with homemade raspberry sauce and garnished it with fresh raspberries, pomegranate seeds, desiccated coconut, and mint leaves. You can check out my recipe for Mini Raspberry Cheesecakes or Zebra Cheesecake on how to make it.įor the creamy cheesecake layer, I used a mixture of soy quark, coconut cream, whipped dairy-free cream and agar powder infused with fresh raspberry juice. If you prefer a nut-free version, you can make a cookie crust instead. The crust is made of healthy almonds and oats and is naturally sweetened using dates. You can also try making my Strawberry Cheesecake, Coconut Rice Pudding Cake and Blueberry Cheesecake variations – they are all absolutely divine! Raspberry Cheesecake Layers They are easy to put together and are ready for the freezer in no time! And with plump, juicy raspberries abound, I just couldn’t resist using them to make a yummy, no-bake cheesecake recipe. That is why dairy-free no-bake cheesecakes are my go-to dessert during this season. When the hot weather hits, I want to steer clear of the oven as much as possible. I love this chocolate mould that I used to make the chocolates look like ‘real’ chocolate bars. This Vegan No-Bake Raspberry Cheesecake Recipe is easy to make with a crunchy almond oat crust and is so delicious – It’s a customizable refreshing cake that also works with gluten-free oats and is perfect as a dessert for spring and summer! The Best Vegan Raspberry CheesecakeĬreamy, tangy, and not very sweet, this homemade cheesecake is a summertime favorite! Today, I incorporated some raspberry powder to create a marble effect with dark chocolate and raspberry chocolate. One day I might feel like adding some quinoa pops, nuts and coconut flakes like I did in this recipe, another day I might just fancy lots of hazelnut chunks…and so on. Each time I make it I add different ingredients. The other thing I like about it is that it’s so easy to play around with the recipe. So if you’re a fan of dark chocolate then this recipe is for you! In terms of the flavour, I think homemade coconut oil chocolate tastes a lot like dark chocolate. The only bad thing about making chocolate using coconut oil as the base is that it melts way too quickly. You need to store it in the freezer and only take it out when you’re ready to eat it and return it to the freezer as soon as possible, especially in hot weather! I would however avoid using peanut butter because the taste is just too overpowering. I like to add nut butter, especially cashew butter to make it more creamy and delicious □ but it’s completely optional. Making your own dairy-free chocolate at home couldn’t be easier! All you need is some coconut oil, cocoa powder and some sort of liquid sweetener. Have you ever dreamt of making your own, homemade chocolate? It involves too much faffing about and requires specific equipment, right? Steinberg wanted to make it available for ALL patients. “Rather than using a selection protocol, or charging an additional fee for breast tomosynthesis,” Southern reported, “we will offer it to everyone who is having a breast cancer screening. Digital Breast Tomosynthesis has recently been highlighted as an additional effective screening tool available in the detection of breast cancer. Southern told ImagingBiz that in addition to a seventh imaging center in 2015, SDMI will also be installing tomosynthesis units for breast cancer screening at all locations, available to all patients. It is customizable to our needs, so we can maximize our operational efficiency.” Exciting changes in the near future The McKesson Radiology™ interface is very user-friendly and it makes sense to our staff. It’s critical that when I learn something new, I bring that information to the group of super-users to train them and get them to use the product more efficiently, so they, in turn, can be a greater resource for the clinicians. Because of the number of different modalities and imaging centers we operate, we require 40 super-users. The rationale behind super-user training is to train them on issues and solutions they can attend to themselves, without having to escalate to the PACS administrator. “I am just about to conduct another super-user training,” said Southern, “for all of our new techs and as a refresher for our experienced users. Over time, Southern has developed a comprehensive training program for SDMI’s 23 radiologists and clinical staff, or “super users”. They were great about teaching me and expanding my skill level, not just solving the problem I was experiencing at that moment,” she added.Ī second challenge according to Southern is continually training staff to use the PACS most effectively. I called them frequently in the beginning. “For me personally,” Southern said, “the technical side of my job has been most challenging, but I have to say, McKesson’s technical support team has helped me immensely. Southern said the road to successful PACS administration was not without significant challenges. “I need to know everything about product implementations and need to be able to conduct implementation trainings for our technical and clinical staff.” No easy road In addition to managing workflow issues and putting out fires when necessary, Southern spends a good amount of time handling project management, implementations, and staff training. Because I understand exactly what the problem is, I can then do what I need to on the IT side and implement a solution.” As PACS administrator, I also know how that problem translates over to the IT side. “When someone calls me with a problem, most times I’ve done the same thing myself and can relate to them. As she puts it, she is able to speak both languages, the IT language and the clinical language. The other success factor Southern believes helped her as PACS administrator is her clinical background. It was especially helpful as I took on my new responsibilities of PACS administrator,” she added. “I did go to Vancouver to complete the architecture training with McKesson. In her new position, she was able to complete much of her training on the job and she also attended a McKesson training designed for PACS administrators. Southern was already a “super-user” on SDMI’s McKesson’s diagnostic imaging solution. “The more difficult challenge I faced was learning the IT commands and workarounds.” “Fortunately, I was already very familiar with the front end of our PACS,” Southern said. Strictly referral based, SDMI’s six imaging centers operate without any hospital affiliations and need to consistently provide high quality imaging services and reporting to referring physicians in order to sustain and grow the patient base. Leon Steinberg, who was later joined by his son, Dr. The company recently celebrated its 25 th anniversary and comprises six imaging centers in the Las Vegas area with intentions to open a seventh in 2015, and employs 350 staff.Ī successful and growing family business, SDI was founded by Dr. Southern has been with SDMI for 12 of its 27 years, joining the company back when she was completing her education as an ultrasound technologist. Having successfully completed nearly two years as PACS administrator, Southern revisits her experience to share how SDMI has best utilized her skills to bridge the gap between clinical and IT staff. The CIO thought differently, and saw that her experience as an imaging technologist could only make a PACS administrator stronger. When Dane’lle Southern was approached by Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging Centers’ (SDMI) CIO to take on the role of PACS administrator for the company, she initially declined, and remembers thinking she couldn’t possibly be a good fit for the position. ARCore handles augmented reality tracking, detection, and measurement, and the Measure app simply presented all that information in a friendly user interface. Measure's demise isn't a huge deal as long as the underlying framework that powers it-ARCore-is still around. Measure was such a good idea that Apple released a similar app for iPhones in 2018. In 2018, Measure arrived on regular Android phones without all the extra sensors Google's ARCore augmented reality toolkit did all the tracking through the camera hardware. The Measure app started life on another dead Google product: Project Tango, which loaded a smartphone with specialized sensors, enabling early portable augmented reality on development devices in 2014 and a commercial device, the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, in 2016. Stadia’s pivot to a cloud service has also been shut down.Google Assistant might be doomed: Division “reorganizes” to focus on Bard.RIP to Dropcams, Nest Secure: Google is shutting down servers next year.YouTube Stories, Google’s clone of Snapchat, is dying on June 26.Google Assistant kills off support for third-party note apps.Plus, the app worked great if you wanted to measure something large, like a telephone pole, which would be pretty difficult with a tape measure. Measure was never good enough for applications like detailed carpentry work-we found that short measurements were accurate to within half an inch, and longer measurements could be off by several inches-but the best measuring tape is the one you have with you. AR tracks real-life objects in order to accurately place virtual items in a camera feed, and if the tracking is good enough, an app can turn that data into a pretty good estimate of distance. The app used a smartphone to measure real-life objects through the magic of augmented reality. Users who previously installed this app can continue to use it on compatible devices." This time, the augmented reality app "Measure" is being put out to pasture.Īs first spotted by Android Police, the Android app is no longer available via a Play Store search, and a direct link to the listing shows a new message in the description: "This app is no longer supported and will not be updated. Another day, another dead Google product. The most common scaling morphs are the Leatherback, Dunner and Silkback. Scaling morphs are normal or regular scaled bearded dragons. A pattern is the design created by the arrangement of the spots on the back of the bearded dragon. When discussing bearded dragon morphs, the term Pattern is commonly used. Different morphs come in an extensive range of colors from red and orange to brown, yellow, white and silver. Amazing accessories that a bearded dragon owner should haveĪ morph (sometimes called a phase) is the physical characteristics of the beardie with many of the beardies showing a host of characteristics. If you like the dragon look and appreciate his or her beauty, then you have found the one for you. Keep in mind that you always trust your real feelings. With various available morphs in the market, choosing the first bearded dragon is a tough decision. What morph for your first bearded dragon? If you are a new beardie enthusiast, you should familiarize yourself with the words people use to accurately describe the traits. Thanks to selective breeding, bearded dragons come in a multitude of morphs and colors, which can be very confusing to a new bearded dragon owner. They are omnivores, which means they feed on plant materials, insects, small mammals and other lizards.Ī bearded dragon care sheet can help you make your beardie comfortable with good habitat. While originally from Australia, the bearded dragon you buy today is bred in captivity. The “beardie”, as it’s affectionately called by enthusiasts, is unique in that it bonds with its owner, responding to your voice and physical touch. The dragon originated from Australia offering a fascinating, fun and friendly pet for adults and children. The bearded dragon has become one of the most popular pet lizards around the world. We included studies where participants recruited as healthy subsequently developed conditions potentially affecting blood pressure or heart rate. We defined “healthy” as women not known to have conditions likely to affect blood pressure or heart rate at the point of first measurement, according to inclusion and exclusion criteria described in Table 1. We included studies containing blood pressure or heart rate measurements from pregnant women recruited as “healthy”. We included cross-sectional, case-control or longitudinal studies containing at least fifty participants and where measurements were taken by a healthcare professional. We registered the review (PROSPERO: CRD42014009673) and published the protocol. This systematic review follows the Meta-analysis Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (MOOSE) and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines (Additional file 1). We planned to investigate the effects of year of measurement, method of measurement (for blood pressure) and parity on vital signs. We carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis to establish whether gestation-specific normal ranges for heart rate and systolic and diastolic blood pressure can be produced from available studies of participants that were “healthy” at recruitment. Evidence-based normal values that take into account changes during pregnancy are therefore required. Small changes in thresholds make substantial differences to the ability of clinical scores to identify physiological deterioration. However, the thresholds used are based on clinical consensus. MEOWS use the perceived normal thresholds to determine whether a woman requires review. However, we could not identify a clinical guideline or Modified Early Obstetric Warning Score (MEOWS) that took account of expected gestational changes in vital sign physiology. The changes in vital signs that occur in pregnancy are known to complicate the recognition of deterioration. Where referenced, these texts rely on the same physiology textbook or small individual studies from over 30 years ago. Core textbooks commonly suggest a mid-pregnancy dip of around 5 mmHg for systolic and 10–15 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure along with a progressive rise in heart rate ranging from 10 to 20 beats/min. Others refer to an obstetric physiology textbook, which references data from small individual studies published between 1970 and the mid-1990s. Many modern clinical guidelines do not reference the sources of their normal vital sign ranges. Our understanding of the normal thresholds for these vital signs underpins their use. Heart rate and blood pressure are key vital signs for the assessment of pregnant women. Increases in diastolic blood pressure over the last half-century and differences between published studies show contemporary data are required to define current normal ranges. Manual and automated blood pressure measurement cannot be used interchangeably. Commonly taught substantial decreases in blood pressure mid-pregnancy were not seen and heart rate increases were lower than previously thought. Significant gestational blood pressure and heart rate changes occur that should be taken into account when assessing pregnant women. Including only higher-quality studies had little effect on findings, with heterogeneity remaining high ( I 2 statistic > 50%). Diastolic blood pressure increased by 0.26 (95% CI 0.10–0.43) mmHg/year. Studies using manual measurement reported higher diastolic blood pressures than studies using automated measurement, mean (95 CI) difference 4.9 (0.8, 8.9) mmHg. We included 39 studies undertaken in 1967–2017, containing 124,349 systolic measurements from 36,239 women, 124,291 diastolic measurements from 36,181 women and 10,948 heart rate measurements from 8317 women. We assessed effects of measurement year and method. We analysed systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and heart rate by gestational age. We included studies measuring blood pressure or heart rate from healthy pregnant women within defined gestational periods of 16 weeks or less. This is a systematic review and meta-analysis. Current reference ranges for blood pressure and heart rate throughout pregnancy have a poor evidence base. It is a revenue stream that nobody else in this industry has," he said.
